It was Lancashire’s answer to Disneyland, a magical world enjoyed by thousands of youngsters and their families.

Camelot at Charnock Richard opened as a theme park in 1983. It was based around the myths and legends of King Arthur and his knights and featured thrill rides, live shows and fun experiences.

Camelot continued to operate until the end of 2012 when dwindling numbers forced its closure.

We have been into the archives to features these photos of Camelot in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Around that time, the park offered more than 80 different themed rides and slides including a flying dragoon ride, Lancelot’s Leap, the Wizzard’s Warren Ride and a log flume which was guaranteed to leave you soaked.

Did you and your family ever visit Camelot? Perhaps you went on a school trip. What were your favourite rides? Did you watch one of the daily jousting tournament?
