ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Workers at a Marietta Waffle House began a three-day strike Friday to demand safer working conditions and a higher minimum wage.
According to a press release, the strike was spurred by a delayed police response to an intruder entering the store.
Theresa Kinard, a worker at the Waffle House, said, “I had a customer rush behind the counter and push me several times. There was no incident report filed. It’s like nobody cares.”
She said the general manager laughed when told of the incident.
The press release said, “Workers are demanding a seat at the table to help create safety plans and ensure a safe working environment for those working at Waffle House.”
The striking workers are demanding 24/7 security, higher wages and an end to mandatory meal deductions.
The higher wages would include raises that were promised last year, but have not been delivered. It would eventually lead to a $25 minimum wage.
