GameStop has revealed what hopefuls can expect from its midnight launch plans. Those who missed out on the opportunity to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 or who are just looking to experience the hype around a midnight launch will want to be prepared for what to expect.

For a lot of gamers, lining up for gaming midnight launches has been a tradition for nearly as long as they've been playing games. While the phenomenon has diminished somewhat given the rise of digital releases and pre-ordering, some fans still excitedly plan their schedule around the launch of new games, and especially new consoles. Now, GameStop has announced what to expect from its Nintendo Switch 2 midnight launch.

Nintendo Apologizes for Switch 2 'Error'

Nintendo apologizes for a marketing 'error' that caused it to misrepresent one of the Switch 2 features that some fans were excited for.

On Twitter, GameStop shared a couple of posts announcing that it would be hosting a midnight launch event in stores for the Nintendo Switch 2 release, starting on June 4 at 3 pm local time. In particular, GameStop acknowledges those who missed out on Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, noting that additional units of the upcoming console will be available both in-store and online at launch for as long as supplies last. Attendees will be able to start picking up their consoles at 12 am EST/9 pm PST.

In addition to that information, GameStop also revealed that it will be offering 40% extra trade credit on any video game traded in towards Nintendo Switch 2 games or accessories. This offer will be available through May 31, so players will need to stop by GameStop in advance of the system's launch to take advantage of the offer. On the actual day of the launch, GameStop will also be giving a free Red Bull energy drink to GameStop Pro members at select stores, though it didn't specify which.

Anticipation is building for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, though some gamers are experiencing hesitation. While the console impressed many fans with its new features and capabilities, the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 and some of its games has led some to hold off on buying the system. Some have voiced hope that the price will drop with time, but with the looming threat of tariffs impacting the game industry, it's not out of the question for prices to instead increase for systems like the Nintendo Switch 2. Nonetheless, the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to sell extremely well, and there's already been a frenzy to get pre-orders in, leading to issues like major retailer website crashes.
