Marietta Doran's best advice for impressing on Ladies Day
Anyone who is worried about the cost of putting together an all-designer look to compete against other trendy racegoers, you will be glad to hear that you don't have to spend hundreds to be crowned winner.
Stylist Marietta Doran told EVOKE that you don't have to break the bank to be in with a chance to win big on Ladies Day at the races. In fact, you will be more on trend if you manage to restyle an older outfit!
'I've been in fashion and judging race day looks for twenty years, I've never looked at someone's outfit and thought: "It must be high-end, it must be designer",' Marietta, who will be on the lookout for great style at The Curragh this weekend, said.

She explained it is a very old-fashioned idea to think that you need to buy a pricey look. 'For me, it could be high-end or high street, re-worn, or pre-loved, it doesn't matter. It's how the look is put together.'
Marietta offered some words of wisdom to impress the race day judges, saying that they often keep their eye out for environmentally conscious outfits. 'What I've noticed at the races is that sustainability is a really important aspect of Ladies' Days,' she said.
'I suppose we're all more conscious of re-wearing our clothes and the benefit that has on the environment, which is something I'm delighted with,' Marietta added.
'People will say to you: "I wore this to my daughter's first Holy Communion, and I decided to wear it again here at the races, and I've just popped a new headpiece with it and new accessories," and they look amazing.'
The most important thing is that your outfit is 'head-to-toe glamour,' Marietta explained. 'You must be wearing a headpiece, and pay attention to detail. I always find a nice pair of sandals and the correct pair of shoes to match the outfit.'
'I also pay attention to the jewellery and nail varnish that will match my dress, and plan them ahead of time,' she revealed. 'I would put more emphasis on being organised than I would on buying an expensive dress.'

'Being organised gives you extra confidence, and that's half the battle,' Marietta said, revealing that she tries on her race-day looks a few days before to see how she feels in them.
'It's important to feel good in your outfit, and that will reflect on the day. The best thing anyone can wear is a smile,' she said, adding that 'everybody has a chance of being part of the most stylish on the course.'
The 50-year-old fashionista revealed that she has worn Zara to the races before, and said that the look worked perfectly.
Marietta even revealed that she has recently secured some gorgeous sling-back style dimante pumps from Penneys, which she explained would work perfectly.

However, if you are looking to splash that extra bit of cash and treat yourself to look with a heftier price tag, Marietta is totally on board, especially if you are opting for an Irish designer.
Marietta will be supporting local when she appears at the 160th Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on Saturday and Sunday. She will be wearing elegant looks designed by Sookyoung Song, both of which she 'adores.'
The style stakes will be high throughout the weekend with The K Club’s Most Stylish Racegoer, judged by Kayleigh Trappe, taking place on Saturday, 28 June.

Meanwhile, Clodagh McKenna, herself no stranger to a fab races look, has been named Lead Fashion Judge for the coveted Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Best Dressed Competition, taking place on Sunday, 29th June.
