Manchester United have so far focused on securing major reinforcements in attack, having already secured Matheus Cunha in a £62.5 million transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The club is also seemingly getting closer to an agreement with Brentford to sign star winger Bryan Mbeumo, while they aim to secure a new striker, with Viktor Gyökeres on the list.
However, Rúben Amorim is also aiming to secure new signings in other areas of the field, with a new midfielder thought to be a priority this summer.
There have also been many rumours circulating that the club could head into the market for a new centre-back and goalkeeper, depending on the outcome of sales.
While United’s main focus with respect to Amorim’s former club, Sporting CP, will be their Swedish talisman Gyökeres, fresh reports have emerged detailing United’s interest in Ousmane Diomande.
According to the Portuguese outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness), United are one of four Premier League clubs who have been “very attentive” to the 21-year-old centre-back’s current situation.
With Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich also reportedly showing interest, Sporting are said to have informed all suitors that their price tag for the player is around £50 million, with Palace being the team currently pushing for the Ivory Coast international.
Although United have a list of centre-backs on their books that could play next season, the long-term futures of Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are in doubt, while Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf will depart at the end of this month.
If reports are to be believed, the Old Trafford outfit have had a long-standing interest in the young defender that predates Amorim’s arrival.
However, it was claimed back in November when Amorim first joined the club that the head coach had told United’s hierarchy that the centre-back is a player they should certainly look to sign this summer.
While the club have been focused on signing more ready-made players in attack this summer, the defensive line is one that has been littered with future talents.
Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven, and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu have all been recruited within the last year and are all under the age of 21.
