A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Kagara, Rafi LGA of Niger State, has sentenced a 23-year -old Bello Hassan to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl.
The court also ordered that the convict be given 12 strokes of the cane as punishment, in addition to N200, 000 compensation for the victim, which was to be sourced from the sales of the convict’s property.
Bello Hassan was found guilty of one count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child, an offence punishable under Section 26 (1) of the Child Right law of Niger State, 2021.
Police prosecutor, Kahuwai Waje, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) tendered a medical report, statement by the convict and four witnesses during the prosecution.
The Judge, Murtala Ibrahim, held that the police prosecutor, Kahuwai Waje, proved the case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.
The judge held that ‘’The offence of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child, punishable under section 26 (1) of the Child Right law of Niger state 2021 was established and proven against the defendant and thereforeconvicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.’’
