Main suspect in GH¢1m Juapong interception speaks, details who owns the stash of cash

One cedi notes and coins were concealed in fertiliser bags

A commercial driver, Edward Ansah, the key suspect arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service, has provided some key details about the stash of money he was caught with.

During a police interrogation, Edward Ansah is said to have denied ownership of the seized stash of money but indicated that he had been hired by an unidentified man in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, to transport the money from Ho in the Volta Region to Kumasi.

He was also said to be transporting the cash for delivery to the unidentified man in Kumasi.

This information was contained in a police statement signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit of the Volta Regional Police Command.

“The driver of the vehicle, suspect Edward Ansah, upon interrogation, told the police he was engaged by a man in Kumasi to convey the currency notes and coins from Ho, Volta Region, to him in Kumasi, Ashanti Region,” the police statement on June 4, 2025, stated.

The police added that the suspect is in custody and assisting with investigations.

The arrest of the main suspect by the police followed the interception of a Ford Transit van loaded with 68 fertilizer bags containing over one million Ghana cedis in coins and one cedi notes at Juapong in the Eastern Region.

The police stated that the total amount of cash, hidden in the fertilizer bags, was discovered at the Juapong snap check while being transported to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
