In a significant development concerning the estate of legendary Tamil actor Sivaji Ganesan, the Madras High Court on Monday lifted an earlier attachment order imposed on a prime property located in T. Nagar, Chennai. Justice Abdul Quddhose issued the order following submissions made on behalf of actor Prabhu, the younger son of Sivaji Ganesan, who asserted sole ownership of the 53,240 sq.ft. property.

The court’s decision comes in the backdrop of a financial dispute involving Prabhu’s nephew, R.G. Dusshyanth — the son of G. Ramkumar and grandson of Sivaji Ganesan. Dusshyanth, a film producer, is currently entangled in a loan controversy that led to legal proceedings affecting the family estate.

The property in question, known as ‘Annai Illam’, had been partially attached earlier this year. In February, the High Court had directed the attachment of 13,310 sq.ft. of the land as part of proceedings related to a loan claim by a private firm, Dhanabakkiam Enterprises. The firm, represented by partner Akshay Sarin, alleged that Dusshyanth and his father Ramkumar entered into a loan agreement with them in December 2017 to finance a film titled Jagajaala Killadi, under the banner of Eshan Productions.

According to court documents, the firm provided Rs. 3.74 crore for the project, with the agreement including a 30% interest rate. Over time, the total outstanding amount reportedly ballooned to Rs. 9.39 crore by July 2023. The lender sought to recover dues by pushing for an attachment of Ramkumar’s share in Annai Illam, alleging the loan was a joint family liability.

Actor Prabhu, through senior advocate P.R. Raman and assisted by Sakthi Aatharsh, contested this claim. He argued that the property was solely his and that neither the loan nor the alleged agreement had any connection with his ownership.

Taking note of Prabhu’s submissions, the High Court directed the T. Nagar Sub-Registrar to expunge all entries related to the previous attachment from the property’s encumbrance certificate, thereby restoring full legal clarity to Prabhu’s title over the estate.

While the property dispute has been resolved in favour of Prabhu for now, the larger financial disagreement involving Dusshyanth and Dhanabakkiam Enterprises remains ongoing. The case adds yet another chapter to the continuing legal and financial entanglements faced by some members of the iconic actor's family.
