Temu Awoo first came into the limelight when his handiwork grabbed the attention of Governor Anne Waiguru.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Awoo expressed delight at meeting Waiguru, adding that it has opened doors for him as she shared the hairdo on her social media pages, and he has gained many clients.

He explained the inspiration behind the hairstyle, saying:

“Aside from resembling her name, the hairdo looked like a bull and I told her that she beat men for political office and the bull indicated her political prowess,” he said, noting that it took him four hours to complete the hairdo.

In addition to the publicity Waiguru gave him, she also invited him to the presidential dinner after the Mashujaa Day celebrations.

He also encouraged young men to join the beauty industry, saying:

“Hairdressing is not meant for women only. It only takes six months to study and if you are passionate, you will grasp the concept quickly.”

Temu has spoken to TUKO.co.ke about his latest creation, shaped into the words, ‘JCM Church’.

“Bishop Kiengei was in Kagio to open a JCM church but I could not reach him because the church protocol did not allow me to,” he said.

However, the hairdresser disclosed that someone sent Kiengei the video and the preacher was impressed.

Temu said that he was prompted to honour JCM because of their charity work.

“JCM is helping Kenyans. They give flour to people who have nothing to eat. I also love Kiengei and his songs.
I would like to meet him."

Temu, who has also done a hairdo for Raila Odinga, asserted that Waiguru still supports him.

“She is like my mother.”

In 2022, former Azimio La Umoja alliance's Martha Karua held a rally in Kirinyaga.

Temu styled a woman’s hair to appear like the political alliance’s name, and the lady got the chance to meet Karua.

Temu disclosed he got the idea for the unique hairstyle after learning about Karua’s visit.

According to Temu, he stood in the crowd with the young lady before the commotion caused by the hairstyle attracted Karua’s attention. He added that the politician gave the woman whose hair he styled monetary gifts.
