Atu’s defection notice was announced on the floor of the green chamber by , speaker of the house, during Thursday’s plenary. 

The lawmaker represents Enugu north/south federal constituency.

On Tuesday, two members of the house — Peter Akpanke and Paul Nnamchi joined the .

Akpanke, who represents Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara federal constituency of Cross River state, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nnamchi, representing Enugu east/Isi-Uzo federal constituency, was an LP member.

Joseph Nwobashi, representing Ezza north/Ishielu federal constituency of Ebonyi, also formally defected from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the APC.

Lawmakers in recent weeks ahead of the 2027 elections.
