, the legendary “,” is making it clear that he has no plans to slow down. In an emotional and insightful interview, the Tejano icon spoke openly about life after more than 60 years in music, the loss of his wife, and his plans for new music and performances.

Addressing recent rumors about slowing down or focusing on smaller venues, Little Joe stated firmly, “No, actually. I want to do bigger venues, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last, I don’t know, maybe three years. Yeah, theatres and concert halls. It’s been working really well for me. Gracias, adios.”

Little Joe, who lost his wife of 62 years, , in October 2024, revealed that her passing brought a low point in his life and inspired him to create new music, including a special song dedicated to her.

“You know, for a while, I lost interest in recording after you do some 70 albums, and for me, it’s a little difficult to get excited…I’ve done eight of them live. So what I want to do next, you know, that’s different. And then also losing my wife. She died in October, and that really put a low point in my life. And then I wrote a song for her, and I haven’t been able to get to record it. I just can’t get myself to record it, but I will.”

The 84-year-old singer also spoke passionately about an innovative new project he’s putting together. “This project that I’m working on, there’s something like I’ve never heard anybody do, and it’s something that I have not done, especially in this market. So, yeah, I’m really excited about it, and I’m putting it together. It’s going to take more work than I anticipated.”

Although he’s focusing more on larger venues, Little Joe emphasized that intimacy with his audience remains vital. “I watch my audience, and you’re right about me playing the smaller venues. It’s intimate, and I love that. I love the people. I love to say hello, hug, and everybody’s got a story for me. They’re talking about 40, 50, 60 years ago. And you know what? In some cases, I do remember. In some instances, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I actually do remember.’ But from there, I got the idea of watching the folks up close. And, you know, when I sing those old songs, I see them sing, cry, and smile. It’s just a real connection with the audience. So I’m putting together something special, and this is really dedicated to the  fan. It’s for everyone.

With an extraordinary career that spans more than six decades — including over 70 albums and numerous Grammy Awards — Little Joe’s impact on Tejano music is immeasurable. As he embraces this new chapter, he’s determined to keep making music and creating memorable moments for his fans.
