Kenya Airways (KQ) achieved a remarkable turnaround with a net profit of KSh 5.4 billion in 2024, in stark contrast to the KSh 22.7 billion loss in the previous year.

  • During the period under review, the country's national flag carrier registered the highest number of passengers (over 5.2 million).

    At the same time, the annual report showed that cargo volumes increased by 25% to 70,776 tonnes, cementing the airline's role as a critical trade link for Africa.

    As a result of the improved performance, KQ paid KSh 104.5 million to its directors in the financial year ending December 2024.

    Allan Kilavuka is KQ's executive director, holding the plum position of chief executive officer (CEO).

    In 2024, Kilavuka earned KSh 74.08 million, including a basic salary of KSh 58.4 million and benefits of KSh 15.68 million.

    "The executive director is remunerated in accordance with the staff remuneration policy. His remuneration package comprises a base salary, pension/gratuity and other benefits designed to recognise the skills and experience of the role," KQ explained.
    Kilavuka earned an average of KSh 6.17 million per month in 2024.

    King'ori joined the KQ Board on June 14, 2024, bringing with him more than 30 years of substantial expertise in the public sector, both domestically and abroad.

    Last year, he earned KSh 964,000 in fees.

    Wilson is the chair of the Board's Human Resources Committee and joined the board in June 2021.

    He was Equity Group Holdings Limited's chief risk & compliance officer.

    The 64-year-old took home KSh 1.765 million in 2024.

    Wambugu became a member of the company's board in June 2021.

    He has worked for more than 37 years, the majority of which have been in industries related to infrastructure and services.

    Wambugu earned KSh 1.6 million during the period under review.

    Chris joined KQ's Board in March 2023. He boasts more than 40 years of diverse experience in the commercial aviation industry.

    The 66-year-old took home KSh 1.6 million.

    How much did Michael Joseph earn?

    In related news, KQ announced the exit of Michael Joseph as the chairman of the airline.

    Joseph worked at Kenya Airways for nine years after joining the board in 2016.

    He led the airline to a record KSh 5.4 billion profit in the 2024 fiscal year.

    The 79-year-old received KSh 18.225 million, which was an increase from KSh 18 million in 2023.
