Lionel Messi Opens Up on His Relationship With Ronaldo After Inter Miami Win at Club World Cup
In the game, Messi scored a stunning free-kick in the 54th minute, which turned out to be the winning goal. It was their first win at the tournament after a frustrating 0-0 draw against Al Ahly.
The Portuguese giants opened the scoring in the first half, but the MLS side turned it around in the second half thanks to Messi's magic. It was the first time an MLS side had beaten a European team in a competitive game.
Inter Miami are now second in Group A behind Brazilian side Palmeiras, but they are tied on four points.
"It was a great effort from the whole team," Messi told DAZN after the game. "Not only did we defend, but we managed the ball well. We had a sour taste after the game against Al Ahly. This is a very important victory, and we'll enjoy it."
Ronaldo and Al-Nassr are not competing at the Club World Cup. The 40-year-old recently inspired Portugal to their second UEFA Nations League.
Messi was recently asked about Ronaldo and shared his thoughts on their relationship.
"I have a lot of respect and admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo and for the career he’s had and continues to have, because he’s still competing at the highest level," Messi told DS Sports.
The two stars are considered the top two greatest footballers of all time. They have 13 Ballon d'Or awards and countless records.

Messi acknowledged that they are not friends, but he treats his long-time rival with respect.
"The competition with him was on the pitch. Each of us wanted to do the best for our team. Obviously, as always, everything stayed on the field. Off the pitch, we are two normal people. We’re not friends obviously because we don’t spend time together, but we’ve always treated each other with a lot of respect."
While Messi is often hailed as the GOAT, this title is fiercely contested by Ronaldo fans who argue that the former Manchester United star holds the crown as the greatest.
Earlier, reported on Lionel Messi's comment about the GOAT debate after Ronaldo claimed he is the most complete footballer.
The World Cup winner was asked if he is the best player ever after winning the 2023 Ballon d'Or ahead of Erling Haaland.
He humbly expressed that being counted among the greatest players in history is an honour, but he doesn’t concern himself with the title of being the best ever.
