LG Polls: Hamzat takes swipe at Obi, rallies support for APC
Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, on Saturday, took a swipe at former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying a certain presidential aspirant who was also a former governor failed to build a single school during his eight-year tenure.
Hamzat made this remark on Saturday at the APC Lagos East Mega Rally, tagged “One Voice, One Vision, One Victory,” held in Ikorodu, while campaigning for the APC ahead of the upcoming local government elections in Lagos.
Hamzat, who noted the achievements of local government chairmen in the state, stated that he had lost count of the number of schools and projects he had commissioned in the state.
He encouraged party members to be vocal about these achievements as they canvassed for votes in the July 12 local government election.
He stressed the importance of unity within the party and urged members to disregard negative comments about the country, noting that Nigeria is moving forward.
The deputy governor expressed confidence in the party’s ability to win the elections, stressing the good work done by the state government, National Assembly, and other elected officials.
He appealed to party members to turn out en masse on July 12 to vote for the APC, emphasising that this would make President Bola Tinubu happy.
He said, “A presidential aspirant in the 2023 election who also happened to be a former governor could not build one school in his eight years in office, but see what our local government representatives have been doing. I have commissioned a lot of schools. We cannot compare ourselves with such people.
“Don’t listen to people who cast aspersions on the country, that things are getting worse, Nigeria is moving. Don’t allow any form of negativity.
“There is no state that has a rail in Africa except Lagos.
“We have records of good things done in the state; therefore, we have what to market to the people.”
