Barely one day after opposition parties in Gombe State formed a coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in the next 2027 elections, the state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) which was part of the coalition was hit by internal crisis resulting to the suspension of some of its officials.

The Guardian reports that a faction of the Executive Committee (Exco) comprising of the Gombe local government chairman of the party, the state assistant secretary, state welfare secretary and member of the party’s contact committee earlier on Saturday announced that “they suspended the state chairman, Adamu Modibbo.

Welfare secretary of the party, Usman Yahya who addressed a press conference, said they, “the concerned members of the party”, suspended the chairman for allegedly taking unilateral decisions, using his personal residence as party secretariat among other improper actions.

However, few hours after their press conference, the state executives of the party, including chairmen of the party in the 11 local government areas of the state and the state executives, convened another press conference, wherein they announced the suspension of the four officials who held the first press conference.

State publicity secretary of the party, Mohammed Abdulkadir Kumo, who read the resolution of the state executives and local governments chairmen of the party, said they had received ‘intelligence information’ that the suspended officials met with a politician in the state who is not a member of SDP and “collected the contact” to cause crisis within the party.

He mentioned the affected officials to include; the state Assistant secretary, Aron Yakubu, Assistant Publicity secretary, Usman Yahya, member contact committee, Lukman Adamu and Gombe local government chairman of the party, Musa Adamu.
