In a renewed push to enhance public safety and curb criminal activity, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce arrested 74 suspects during an enforcement operation in the Lekki axis.

The pre-dawn operation led by the Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, covered strategic locations including Lekki Phase 1 and 2, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Lagos Law School area, Eko Hotel axis, and Oniru Beach, following complaints from residents about the growing presence of street urchins, miscreants, and suspected criminals.

The agency said those arrested would be charged to court in line with existing laws.

Akerele emphasised the taskforce’s zero-tolerance stance toward any actions that threaten public peace.

“Those who choose to undermine the peace and security of our communities must desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law. We will not relent in our efforts to ensure a safer and cleaner Lagos.”

Akerele noted that the operation is part of a broader, ongoing initiative by the taskforce to conduct routine enforcement at least twice a week, with focus on known black spots, criminal hideouts, and illegal structures.
