Kusha Kapila Slams Foreign Journalist For Calling Her Random Celebrity At Cannes 2023

Published 21 hours ago3 minute read

When we think of content creators attending the Cannes Film Festival, the first name that comes to our mind is Kusha Kapila. After all, she was one of the earliest influencers from India to attend the prestigious film festival, back in 2023. The content creator-turned-actress got mixed reactions at her debut.

Despite not attending Cannes this year, Kusha has been subjected to trolls with memers saying she is a mere random celebrity who walked on the Cannes red carpet just to make TikTok videos. And obviously, Kusha has had enough!

Kusha has firmly responded to a foreign journalist who shared a meme labeling her as a ‘random’ celebrity. Kusha strongly criticisedthe journalist, commenting, “Don’t refer to me as a random celebrity.”

The video, which has been widely circulated online, featured images of Kusha alongside YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and actress Urvashi Rautela.

Kusha Kapila has called out a viral meme that questioned the presence of content creators and influencers at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The reel, featuring a clip from the American TV show The Studio, used images of Kusha, YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, and actor Urvashi Rautela to suggest that some celebrities attend only for red carpet photos and leave without watching the films.

The video did not sit well with Kusha Kapila and she responded in the comments to clarify her position and defend her attendance at Cannes.

The Sukhee actress wrote in the comment section, "You have taken a picture of mine from 2023, slapped on a meme that you are likely making about this year’s Cannes film festival. I have already been called out plenty that year, reflected, course corrected and done my share of apologising and never ever been seen in a place where I don’t deserve a place.”

In her Instagram comments, she further clarified, “For context, I actually did attend the screening that day for the show, The Idol, and sat through two episodes of the show and also posted an honest review. It was a terrible show. I posted pictures and stories from inside the screening so no, I didn't just exit from the red carpet.”

She continued by shedding light on how brand associations have long played a role at Cannes, “Historically companies HAVE sponsored celebrities and actors to walk the red carpet. Brands buy the ticket for the red carpet. Title sponsors of the event can have their ambassadors walk on the carpets. It's not a trend started by creators/influencers.”

The Thank You For Coming actress acknowledged constructive criticism regarding her acting career, but rejected being dismissed as irrelevant. “Calling me out for not yet making a mark as an actor is fair, I will keep trying and take that on my chin but please don't refer to me as a random celebrity. Calling someone's entire existence random is not cool. I am a creator. Call me that please. It's a meme for you. For me, it's my identity,” concluded Kusha.

This is not the first time Kusha has become a victim of online trolling. Ever since she announced her divorce from Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia in June 2023, the social media influencer has been subjected to online trolling and hatred.

A few days ago, Kusha schooled an Instagram user for sliding in her DM and making an obscene comment.
