Knicks Bulletin: 'I swear to God, Thibs, all he say is literally, damn'

Published 2 days ago5 minute read

The New York Knicks front office is still looking for a head coach, but the players surely are enjoying their offseason.

Whispers here, whispers there, but Rick Pitino it ain’t. Neither is Dan Hurley... but what if little Johnnie Bryant returns to where he belongs!?

Here’s what we keep hearing around Knicks World.

“Absolutely not.”

“I feel bad for Thibs because he captured all of New York, built something very, very special. A lot of us don’t comprehend what happened, but Thibs is going to be well taken care of and he’ll move on to other pastures.”

“Not another summer of that.”

“He really don’t say sh*t. He just be down pop, down.”

“That’s all he say, but he don’t be saying like Teague go here, do this… he don’t really be coaching you. He kinda just be like, ‘damn. Damn it man.’ He don’t say nothing. I swear to God, Thibs all he say is literally, ‘damn’ and we just watching him… ‘you gotta be here, damn.’”

“In the game, bro you can run, you can shoot anytime, you can run anything. He lets you be a basketball player. Obviously, he’s going to put the ball in his best player’s hands, but other than that, he don’t say sh*t bro.”

Rajon Rondo has Boogie Cousins and Lou Will’s support to be the next head coach of the Knicks ️

“Absolutely, I think he would be the perfect guy for the job.”

“If we praise JJ Redick, and this is no knock. I think JJ is a really good coach, but if we praise JJ for his level of IQ and his understanding of the game. I mean Rondo is light years ahead of him.”

“So I think when it comes to any coaching job I think his name should be in the hat. He’s a winner, he knows the game, he’s also a great teacher of the game, he was that when he was a player, so you could only imagine what he would be if he’s a full-time coach.”

“There are little things, because I do think Tom Thibodeau is a great culture setting coach.”

“What I saw and I went back, there’s a guy on Twitter, bad coaching whatever his thing is, he has a whole list of things that KAT was trying to do, that Jalen Brunson was trying to do, that they obviously have not practiced or there was not enough discipline to do these things.”

“You can’t ask somebody to just work on something in the Eastern Conference Finals.”

“You can’t just say, ‘Hey I’m gonna play five guys. Hey Eastern Conference Finals let me go dig in the garage, dust off, Delon Wright who had played 14 minutes all season.’ There are big things that he needs to work on as a coach.”

“I know RB is in that office like, ‘Y’all need a guy? I know the star player pretty decently.’”

“All jokes aside, you might have to take a look at it.”

“When I first saw it, I thought it was one of those fake AI (artificial intelligence) things. No way. There’s no way possible.”

“I get asked frequently about these things. I always say shocked. Sometimes you get numb and you’re not shocked. The Knicks have such a unique situation with so much attention and such a large fan base and such a worldwide following, it’s one of the most difficult jobs to take. The guys that have been most successful, Red Holzman, Pat Riley, Jeff Van Gundy, Rick Pitino had a short run but a very effective run.”

“There were a lot of lean years. Thibs went in there and changed so much. So, you look at all that, then what happened yesterday.”

“Teams and ownership can make these decisions unilaterally, and it’s their right to do that. So, Tom will certainly be fine. I don’t think he’s going to have any problem finding his next job. It’s just going to depend on when he’s ready to jump back in again.”

“When it comes to available coaches, longtime Villanova coach Jay Wright, who has long expressed a reluctance to make the leap to the NBA, and Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Johnnie Bryant quickly emerged as presumed likely candidates … emphasis on presumed.”

“Two head coaches who are not currently available but said to interest the Knicks, according to league sources, are Dallas’ Jason Kidd and Houston’s Ime Udoka.”

“One source with knowledge of the Rockets’ thinking told The Stein Line categorically that permission to speak with Udoka would be rejected if the Knicks requested it.”

“Per Hoops Wire sources, multiple Knicks players have been unhappy with the presence of assistant coach Rick Brunson, the father of star guard Jalen Brunson. What that issue is, exactly, has not been determined, though sources suggested that Rick has had too big a say in things.”

“One source called Rick the person with the most power in the entire organization. His status is uncertain following Thibodeau’s dismissal, though considering he’s Jalen’s dad, many assume Rick will remain with the team in some capacity.”
