KLIA aerotrain to resume operations on July 1 – Loke

Passengers taking international flights at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will be able to move via train between terminals from July 1 when the new Aerotrain service officially resumes operation.

Transport minister Anthony Loke confirmed that the Aerotrain will begin running again at the start of July, the Malay Mail reports. He said that the latest development would allow a greater degree of comfort for travelling passengers transiting between the main terminal and the satellite building.

“I am happy to announce that we are entering the final phase of testings in the coming days. If all goes smoothly, we have decided to reopen the train service at 10 am on July 1,” he said.

He said the system was undergoing the final phase of testing, which involves live simulations of the ermergency response rlan (ERP) and relevant personnel. He added that safety was always top priority. “Safety is very important. That is why we took time to carry out various tests. These tests are of course monitored by the land public transport agency (APAD),” he said.

Loke said that the existing feeder bus system will remain operational to support the Aerotrain system until its performance reaches an optimal level. “If and when everything is operating optimally, the management (Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad) will determine whether to discontinue or retain the bus service,” he said.

He said the Aerotrain, which was suspended in March 2023 following a breakdown, was undergoing the final phase of testing, involving live simulations of the emergency response plan (ERP) and relevant personnels.

With a transit time of under two minutes, each aerotrain set comes in three coaches with a passenger capacity of 90 each, allowing each train set to ferry 270 people at a time. During peak hours, two coaches will be in operation, while only one tain will be in operation during off-peak hours from 12 am to 5 am.

Having spent more than a decade and a half with an English tabloid daily never being able to grasp the meaning of brevity or being succinct, he wags his tail furiously at the idea of waffling - in greater detail - about cars and all their intrinsic peculiarities here.
