Popular Kikuyu gospel singer Martin wa Janet, dubbed the Kigoco President, has called out Rigathi Gachagua over his recent outburst targeting musicians who visited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Taking to his Facebook page, the Ni Mahoya hitmaker expressed deep disappointment with Gachagua, accusing him of hypocrisy and neglect towards the same artistes he now seeks to control.

In a passionate message, Martin questioned why Gachagua had never hosted the musicians he is now rebuking, even when he was deputy president, despite their support during his campaigns.

“You have been with these artistes you are rebuking for the longest time, but there’s no single day you invited them to Karen or even to Wamunyoro,” he wrote.

Martin, who has been a vocal figure in the Kikuyu gospel scene, reminded Gachagua of moments when artistes like himself stood with him.

He even recalled the controversial disruption of his Ihura Stadium Prayer Day event, allegedly by Gachagua.

Wa Janet dismissed Gachagua’s threats of a boycott against artistes who met Kindiki as unwarranted, urging him to recognise the efforts of musicians instead of condemning them.

The singer noted that Kindiki had shown more willingness to support the creative industry than Gachagua had ever done.

“Every time you get to your house, you listen to our music, yet you’re rebuking us. Even today, before your speech, someone’s song was played by the DJ. Some of us have been singing even before you became a district officer,” he noted.

Martin further criticised Gachagua’s apparent inconsistency and called on him to stop fuelling alleged unnecessary divisions.

“Today you say this, tomorrow the opposite. Stand on one side. It’s your time to reason like a leader,” he added.

His remarks follow Gachagua’s controversial statement threatening to mobilise a boycott of musicians who fail to apologise for visiting Kindiki.

Gachagua claimed he had been advised by elders to take action against what he termed as 'traitors' to the community.

In contrast, Kindiki fired back, defending the musicians and reaffirming his support for local talent.
