Nigeria’s teenage golf sensation, Grace Agbo, has stormed into the spotlight after clinching gold in the ladies stroke play event at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun State.

Agbo delivered a commanding performance with a gross score of 84, securing her first-ever NSF gold medal and reinforcing Team FCT’s growing dominance in the sport.

Speaking after her victory, an elated Agbo shared how special the win was, especially after narrowly missing the podium at the previous NSF held in Asaba.

“I started from the back nine with a par on hole 10, but on hole 11, I played 2 over. I had to ship into the cup to save a 7, then managed a par on hole 18—which is by far the hardest hole where others were scoring 15, 19, even 21. That was my turning point,” she said.

She credited her victory to the unwavering support of her father, Coach-Pro Dominic, Uncle Chidi, and friend Janet, saying their voices of encouragement echoed in her head throughout the tournament.

“This win is proof of my hard work and dedication. I’m proud to say this is my first NSF gold, and I’m hopeful of winning even more for Team FCT before the festival ends,” Agbo added.

FCT has entered 11 golfers in the competition, participating in 10 different events, including eclectic, four-ball stroke play (team), match play (singles and doubles), and professional categories like stroke play 18 holes and stableford formats.

Grace Agbo’s triumph not only adds to Team FCT’s medal haul but also marks the emergence of a rising star in Nigerian golf.
