A section of leaders has made a rallying call for national unity, responsible leadership, and an end to divisive and tribal politics, urging for the need to focus on development and service delivery for all Kenyans.

Speaking during a Women’s Empowerment event in Mwingi West hosted by area MP Charles Nguna on Friday, the leaders emphasized the importance of shifting the national discourse from political wrangles to people-centered development.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula urged leaders to rise above political differences and focus on delivering the promises made to Kenyans.

“It does not matter who voted for or against the President, he serves the Republic of Kenya in its entirety. Leadership is not about partisanship; it is about responsibility. The elections are behind us. Now is the time to build, to develop, and to deliver,” said Wetangula.

He condemned tribal and inflammatory rhetoric, noting that Kenya’s diversity should be its strength and not a source of division.

“We must reject the politics of tribalism. In Western Kenya, we are proud to live side by side with people from all backgrounds and communities. That is our strength, not our weakness,” he added.

Warning against the growing trend of leaders insulting each other in public forums, Wetangula reminded Kenyans that leadership is transient.

“Leadership is a revolving door. The same disrespect you normalize today may one day be directed at you. Let us uphold the dignity of public discourse for the sake of our country and its future,” he stated.

Echoing the Speaker’s sentiments, Kanduyi MP John Makali called on leaders to put aside political party affiliations and prioritize national unity.

“Kenya is one nation. We must build it together, regardless of our political alignments. Our women need better healthcare, education, and infrastructure, not endless political noise,” said Makali.

Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda added that women are the bedrock of any society and deserve focused policies and sustained empowerment.

“If women were not present in our communities, our society wouldn’t be the same. We must support their growth and inclusion at all levels,” she stated.

Agriculture and Livestock Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke emphasized that leadership must be anchored on service.

“Our work is to build and help the citizens of this country. We cannot afford to neglect our people,” Mueke said.

MP Nguna, on his part, noted: “We have brought some development to this region, and we intend to do even more. But that can only happen when we remain united.”
