Texas makes 'extremely big' move on elite two-sport recruit as fellow SEC teams chase after unique talent

Published 14 hours ago3 minute read

Some fits just make sense, and that's especially the case when there's an in-state powerhouse chasing after one of the most unique talents in the country. This week, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian offered four-star quarterback Kavian Bryant, from Westwood, a 2027 scholarship.

The dual-sport star could also play basketball for the Longhorns, if given the opportunity. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is the 69th overall player and 15th-ranked shooting guard in the nation.

To no one's surprise, Bryant was incredibly enthused that Texas offered him.

”The opportunity is extremely big,” Bryant said per On3. “You know Texas is the college here in Texas and for me to earn it is truly a blessing.

“The Longhorns coaching staff is great. Great energy and vibes were off the charts and the Longhorns history has been great. So yes the camp was great and blessed to receive the offer.”

"It was exciting for the family," Bryant's father said via Horns247. "(Thursday) was actually my birthday, and I elected to spend some time with my boys doing what we've always done, being on the grind. To do it at a camp at Texas and receive the Texas offer, it's huge for Kavian, so it's huge for me too."

Michigan, Florida State, Tennessee, and Texas A&M are still fighting with Texas for the opportunity to land Bryant. Texas and Michigan are considered the favorites in the race, but we'll see how visit season shakes out.

Here's a scouting report on Bryant, courtesy of Gabe Brooks of 247 Sports.

High-major two-sport prospect with big offers in football and basketball. Provides excellent playmaking ability with his arm and his legs in the former, along with elite skill and instincts in the latter. Dominant TXHSFB 3A dual-threat QB with enormous production through first two seasons. Adequate height with a lean, athletic build that will carry more mass. Very good functional athlete who consistently extends plays. Made noticeable strides as a passer from freshman to sophomore year and again in a relatively short time from end of sophomore season to the following spring elite camp circuit. Shows touch nuance and encouraging accuracy. Burgeoning velocity. Comfortable throwing on designed or improvised rollouts. More unconventional than some other high-level QBs at this stage, which is not necessarily a negative since he's not a specialist; therefore, possesses immense developmental potential considering multi-sport foundation and all-around athletic profile. Comes from an athletic family, including a former D-I basketball player in his father. Appears to be one of the higher-ceiling QB prospects in the 2027 cycle.
