Kibera Crowned FKF Women Cup Champions

Kibera Soccer Women FC have been crowned champions of the 2025 FKF Women’s Cup, securing a thrilling 1-0 victory over formidable opponents Vihiga Queens in the final match held at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru. The decisive moment came dramatically in stoppage time when Stella Adhiambo netted the winning goal, breaking the deadlock and sealing the cup for Kibera with a slot past goalkeeper Mercy Akoth in the 88th minute.

The match, while ultimately decided by a single late goal, was a display of competitive football with both teams creating numerous opportunities. Kibera Soccer Women FC, in particular, dominated the first half, but were plagued by a series of missed chances. Anna Arusi was noted for squandering three golden opportunities within the first two quarters of the match, leaving the scoreline unexpectedly barren despite Kibera's attacking prowess.

Vihiga Queens, known for their robust defense featuring players like Yvonne Muyoka, Alice Muderi, Ruth Khasoha, and Phanice Lwosi, managed to hold their ground for the majority of the game. Their defensive unit performed remarkably well, maintaining concentration until the crucial dying minutes when a momentary lapse allowed Adhiambo to weave through and secure the victory.

Post-match reactions highlighted the intensity of the final. Kibera head coach David Vijago acknowledged the difficulty of the game, stating, "It was a tough match, but the best team won despite us losing lots of chances in the first half." On the other side, Vihiga's coach Boniface Nyamunyamu graciously admitted defeat to a superior side, expressing plans for future improvement. He attributed his team's loss not only to missed chances in the second half but also to fatigue among key players who had recently been with the national team, Harambee Starlets. Despite Vihiga's efforts to return the pressure in the second half, they failed to create meaningful threats against Kibera's custodian Mercy Akoth.

Beyond the coveted title, Kibera Soccer Women FC also walked away with a significant prize of Sh700,000. Their triumph was further celebrated with individual honors: Vivian Shionzo was named the Best Goalkeeper, and Faith Mboya received the Most Valuable Player award. Vihiga Queens did not leave empty-handed, as Diana Cherono earned the Golden Boot Award for her impressive four goals throughout the tournament.
