The two leaders later held a private meeting, suggesting a possible political truce between them.

The meeting between Gachagua and Karua was attended by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, Naivasha MP Jane Kihara, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, and Kirinyaga Senator James Murango.

Karua announced on social media that she and Gachagua would go live on TikTok, fueling further speculation.

"Join us live on TikTok. #UniteandLiberateKe," Karua's tweet read.

Gachagua and Karua had not been seen together since the deputy president debate ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Kenyans reacted on social media to the news of the Karua and Gachagua meeting, with some speculating that the two might team up to challenge President William Ruto in the next election, while others suggested their unity could pose a threat to the Kenya Kwanza government.

Karani Mutonga:

"Unity of purpose."

Wanjiku K:

"How I pray that Hon Karua is endorsed by Mt Kenya as their Presidential candidate. She is enough! Anatosha."

Nabas Mutei:

"Gachagua has one agenda, not to be the president but to make sure Ruto goes down as one-term president."

Daisy Ndemo:

"Hii ni mchezo gani imeanza."

Joseph Kihiu:

"Good one."

Savastano:

"Mko na mchezo sana."

Koiet Naikumi:

"Kumbe all things are possible.

The meeting between Karua and Gachagua comes at a time when the two appear to have distanced themselves from their former political affiliations.

In a Gazette notice dated January 23, the Registrar of Political Parties announced that Gachagua was no longer the deputy party leader of President Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) after his removal from office.

On Thursday, July 25, Karua announced that she had distanced herself from the Azimio la Umoja Coalition.

In a brief notice to Azimio la Umoja Secretary General Junet Mohamed, Karua's Narc Kenya party cited "ongoing political developments" as the reason for its immediate withdrawal from Azimio membership.

The party, along with others, co-founded the coalition ahead of the 2022 elections, where Karua ran for deputy president as Raila Odinga's running mate.

She was seeking to become Kenya's first woman to hold the position of deputy president.
