Kenya showcases public service innovations at APSD 2025 in Addis Ababa
Kenya has joined fellow African nations in marking the 2025 edition of Africa Public Service Day (APSD), currently underway at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Themed “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps,” this year’s celebration seeks to spotlight transformative solutions and innovations that improve public service across the continent. The event was officially opened by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh.
Representing Kenya at the celebrations is a delegation led by the Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya.
The team is showcasing a range of forward-looking innovations crafted to boost efficiency, transparency, and citizen service delivery within the public sector.
Among the featured innovations is the Automated Reporting Management Information System developed by the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration.
This system streamlines data reporting processes, enhancing accountability and decision-making in internal security operations.
The JazaMiti Initiative, presented by the Kenya Forestry Research Institute, aims to bolster reforestation efforts through a tech-driven approach that encourages public participation in tree planting and environmental conservation.
Baringo National Polytechnic is exhibiting its Water Recycling Technology, a sustainable solution targeting water-scarce areas. This initiative aligns with Kenya’s broader environmental conservation and climate resilience goals.
Huduma Kenya is highlighting The Universal Agent innovation, which enables frontline officers to serve citizens across multiple government services using a single digital platform — a move geared toward reducing bureaucracy and improving convenience for service seekers.
Also on display is Poultry MeloVax, a veterinary innovation from Tharaka University designed to boost poultry farming through improved vaccine delivery methods.
This project is particularly relevant for smallholder farmers, offering a path to increased food security and economic empowerment.
Finally, the Kenya Ports Authority is unveiling KARGOPAY, a digital payment solution aimed at streamlining cargo clearance and port-related transactions, ultimately reducing turnaround times and enhancing efficiency in trade logistics.
These innovations reflect Kenya’s steadfast commitment to citizen-centric governance and sustainable development.
Through cross-sectoral collaboration and strategic use of technology, the country is setting the pace in reimagining public service delivery — not just locally, but across the African continent.
