Kendrick Perkins Reveals 'Petty' Reason Michael Jordan Stopped Sending Him Sneakers
Michael Jordan might well be the greatest basketball player ever, but he has also developed a reputation for being a rather petty individual. You can find yourself out of favor with Jordan in an instant if he thinks you even slightly disrespected him, and Kendrick Perkins found that out the hard way.
On Wednesday's episode of "First Take," LeBron James' comments on his relationship with Jordan were a hot topic of conversation. At the end of it, Perkins shared how he stopped getting sneakers from the Jordan Brand just because he had stated that James is the GOAT.
"MJ is petty as hell too," Perkins said on First Take. "Now, if you go in my closet, it's nothing but J's. I keep J's on my feet. I was signed to Jordan for about two years when I was playing, okay? I wore J's throughout the course of a few years of my time in Oklahoma City.
"After that, I used to get boxes in the mail all the time of the J's before they even hit the stores," Perkins continued. "I started my media career. As soon as I said that LeBron James was the GOAT, those boxes stopped coming."
That isn't all too surprising, is it? The "Last Dance" documentary gave us an insight into Jordan's nature, and he was not going to send free sneakers to someone who thought that he wasn't the GOAT.
Perkins cost himself free sneakers for the rest of his life by siding with James in the GOAT debate. He might have some regrets about that now.
Perkins and James appeared to be close at one point, but the two former teammates do not have a great relationship anymore. Perkins revealed he has blocked James' number after being unfollowed by him on X.
Since he started his media career, Perkins has burned many bridges, and that's what appears to have happened here as well.
