For Keke Palmer, fame has come with some strange moments.

She revealed one of them when she and Issa Rae, her fellow producer of the new comedy One of Them Days, interviewed each other to promote the project. Rae asked Palmer about the wildest experience she had ever had with a server at a restaurant.

"Well, I never had a crazy, you know, server at a restaurant type of thing, but I do remember one time I was at a strip club," Palmer said. "And this was a very unique situation with me, where the stripper came out. She was like, 'Oh my gosh, Keke, they told me you was here, and I just wanted to let you know that my two favorite movies was Akeelah and the Bee and Selena growing up, and I almost made my stripper name Akeelah.... I just want you to know I love you.'"

Palmer said she responded, "That's really amazing."

The Nope actress has been in show business since she was a child. Akeelah and the Bee, which came out in 2006, when she was 12, was her breakout role. Costarring with Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne, she played a student from a dysfunctional family who discovers that she has a gift for spelling.

Palmer, who's now 31, said back in November that none other than Will Smith provided her with words of encouragement in those early years of stardom by leaving her a voicemail, as she was considering emancipation from her parents. At the time, the 17-year-old was working on the Nickelodeon series she starred on for three seasons as a teen, True Jackson, VP.

"'Hey, Keke. It's Will,'" he said, Palmer recalled in a November interview with The Toast podcast. "'We're over here doing Karate Kid with Jaden [and] I just want to let you know I talked to [Palmer's lawyer]. He let me know everything you're going through, and I want you to know sometimes it's hard being the first, but you'll get through. Just keep staying focused, love on your family, and y'all gonna be good.'"

Palmer didn't go through with the legal action, and she forged ahead in her career.

In One of Them Days, she and SZA play best friends and roommates who discover that the boyfriend of SZA's character has squandered their rent money, leaving them scrambling to replace it within hours. The movie is exclusively in theaters Jan. 17.
