Having faced a difficult past decade, she brushed off the hardships to pursue her academic dreams and excel.

She graduated from the Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University, where she had enrolled on a scholarship.

Gender-based violence activist Njeri Wa Migwi took to social media to share her joy, having witnessed Kyuma's journey and growth.

"Graduate in journalism: Second Class Honours, Upper Division. I’m in Bondo today, so I missed the graduation. But the Usikimye team represented us as she is part of our family.
We took her to the office to celebrate with the children of Soweto, and I can't stop crying. So incredibly proud of you, Liz Future Kyuma. The future is yours. You did it. Congratulations," she happily wrote.

Njeri shared a brief history of how she met Kyuma, dating back to 2020 when the then-teenager was referred to her.

Kyuma had completed her high school education at 18 and performed admirably, scoring an A.

However, not long after, she lost her grandmother—the only guardian she had left.

"We had hardly buried her grandmother when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. We picked up the pieces and started the treatment. Along the way, KCA awarded her a scholarship.
I supported her with food, fruits, transport, and hospital needs like mammograms and X-rays," Njeri shared.

Things were going well until the cancer returned aggressively in 2022, leaving Kyuma physically and emotionally drained.

She had to resume chemotherapy and, during treatment, lost all her hair.

Njeri recalled a heartbreaking phone call from Kyuma, who was in tears because some students laughed at her hair loss.

Despite the painful journey, Njeri was overjoyed that Kyuma's resilience had finally paid off.

Social media users flooded the comment section, joining in the celebration:
