Kaduna Government School Rots Away As Pupils Learn On Bare Floor Despite Multi-Billion Naira Education Budget | Sahara Reporters
According to the group, the school now cram over 196 pupils into a few crumbling classrooms, where they sit on bare floors under dangerous conditions, with no sign of relief in sight.
A civic technology platform, MonITNG, has exposed the rot in Kaduna’s public education system, revealing that a primary school in the Giwa Local Government Area has remained abandoned for over five years despite the state government’s repeated claims of prioritising education.
In a post shared on X on Saturday, MonITNG raised the alarm over the dilapidated condition of L.G.E.A. Primary School Ganuwa in Danmahawayi Ward, describing the scene as “heartbreaking” and a “symbol of neglect.”
The group said, “We visited L.G.E.A. Primary School Ganuwa in Danmahawayi Ward, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and what we saw was heartbreaking. One of the classroom blocks has completely collapsed, leaving behind cracked walls, no roof, exposed wooden beams, broken floors, and no furniture. What was once a place of learning is now a symbol of neglect.”
According to the group, the school now cram over 196 pupils into a few crumbling classrooms, where they sit on bare floors under dangerous conditions, with no sign of relief in sight.
“More than 196 pupils are now squeezed into the few remaining classrooms, learning in harsh, overcrowded conditions. For over five years, parents, teachers, and community leaders have made repeated appeals to both the @GovKaduna and the Giwa Local Government Chairman. But their cries have been ignored. The school remains abandoned and dangerous, with no timeline for renovation or replacement,” the statement continued.
Kaduna State, under both former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and current Governor Uba Sani, has repeatedly boasted of investing heavily in education. But the reality on the ground, MonITNG says, tells a different story.
“Between 2023 and now, Kaduna State has consistently allocated huge sums to the education sector. In 2023, under the administration of former Governor @elrufai, ₦107.72 billion was proposed for education, representing 29.1% of the ₦370.3 billion budget. In 2024, Governor @ubasanius allocated ₦115.4 billion to education—25.19% of the budget—while ₦71.6 billion went to the health sector. In 2025, education again received the largest allocation: ₦206.6 billion, which accounted for 26.14% of the total budget.”
MonITNG accused the Kaduna government of paper achievements that do not reflect in the lives of rural schoolchildren, insisting that such children are being left behind despite flashy budget numbers.
“Despite these staggering figures, schools like L.G.E.A. Ganuwa remain in ruins. The state’s budget speeches speak of transformation, but the reality for rural children is far from inclusive. When pupils sit on bare floors under leaking roofs and cracked walls, how can we talk about access to quality education? These children are not statistics; they are the future, and they are being failed.”
They called on Governor Uba Sani to stop the lip service and immediately rescue the school from total collapse.
“The @GovKaduna must match its words with action. L.G.E.A. Ganuwa urgently needs a full-scale renovation or the construction of new classrooms. The pupils here deserve a safe and dignified learning environment. Rural children are not second-class citizens. Their education matters. Their safety matters. And their future cannot continue to wait.”
