JUNE Mar Fajardo is now the record holder for the most number of offensive rebounds in the Philippine Basketball Association.

The eight-time MVP achieved the feat on the road as San Miguel turned back a hard-fighting Rain or Shine side, 120-111, in their Philippine Cup showdown Saturday night at the Aquilino Pimentel International Convention Centre in Cagayan de Oro City.

Fajardo, 35, grabbed his 2,412nd offensive board in the first quarter following a missed layup by CJ Perez off a transition play. The 6-foot-10 Cebuano converted the rebound into a basket for an 18-14 San Miguel lead at the 4:36 mark.

Doing so, Fajardo surpassed retired great Jerry Codinera as top offensive rebounder in Asia’s pioneering pro league, according to chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

The San Miguel star reached the mark in just 11 seasons and a total of 510 games.

Fajardo finished the night with a total of four offensive boards for 2,415 overall.

He had 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, nine rebounds, and four assists in the Beermen’s seventh win in nine outings to remain in solo second place while boosting their bid for a Top 4 finish at the end of the elims and a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoffs.

Consisting the top five all-time offensive rebounder in PBA history are two-time MVP Abet Guidaben (2,373), four-time MVP Ramon Fernandez (2,217), and former MVP Asi Taulava (2,204).
