Agbinda made the request in a statement on behalf of those he described as apostles of the former governor to mark the 80th posthumous birthday anniversary of Rev. Fr. Adasu on June 12, 2025.
The statement read in part: “The attention of Nigerians ought to be drawn to the fact that even as a Catholic Priest, Fada Adasu was at the forefront of midwifing a Muslim-Muslim (Abiola-Kingibe) presidential ticket.
“This remarkable position underscored his firm belief in power shift and rotation while explaining that if Muslim-Muslim ticket took place Christian-Christian was bound to also emerge sooner or later.”
Dr Agbinda stressed that if Fada Adasu had raised an objection to the 1993 presidential ticket of his party, the Social Democratic Party, (SDP), M.K.O. Abiola’s prospects would have been imperiled.
While appreciating the current Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, for actualizing the immortalization of Fada Adasu by renaming the State University after him, Agbinda stated that much more needs to be done, especially in the context of utilizing his values, attributes, perspectives and vision for the State and Nigeria.
Dr Agbinda noted that, “ironically the godfather-godson schism generated post-election between Adasu’s presently most important political sons is festering out of hand.”
He insisted that Fada Adasu’s campaign and later governance mantra of healing and reconciliation ought to impact them.”
He stressed that the celebration of Fada Adasu’s posthumous 80th birthday anniversary should be a rededication to his values of self sacrifice and patriotism noting that only a commitment to these values is bound to resolve the several challenges currently confronting Benue State and Nigeria.
Agbinda warned of the harrowing scenarios that will be birthed by the evolving crises on account of the division in the ranks of major political gladiators in Benue State.
