While many would have hoped that rivals USA and Canada would contest for the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off title, it would have been hard to predict the political tensions between the countries, which would spill out onto the ice. President Donald Trump's notion of Canada being the 51st state, and his threat to place steep tariffs on Canadian imports have stirred a renewed sense of national pride on the northern side of the border.
