Johnnie Walker launches AfroExchange with Lagos send-off for Nigerian creatives
Johnnie Walker, a leading global Scotch whisky brand, has launched its AfroExchange cultural platform in Lagos, kicking off a new initiative aimed at connecting African creatives through music, fashion, art, and storytelling. The platform, which begins with a cultural exchange between Lagos and Johannesburg, spotlights creators shaping the continent’s artistic identity.
The send-off event for Nigerian delegates—musician Bnxn, DJ Dope Caesar, and visual artist Saga—took place at Trib3 Lagos and featured music performances, discussions, and immersive cultural showcases.
Speaking at the event, Ifeoma Agu, Group Head of Culture, Influencer and Advocacy at Diageo South, West, and Central Africa, explained the purpose of the platform:
“Johnnie Walker AfroExchange represents a powerful evolution in how we engage with culture as a brand. We are investing in voices, stories, and innovations driving the Afrocultural movement forward. It is a cultural bridge that pays tribute to Africa’s bold creators—a space for connection, creative experimentation, influence and cultural pride.”
The evening included a DJ set and a live discussion moderated by Ehis, with culture commentators Joey Akan and Quincy Jonze exploring how Afrobeats and Amapiano influence each other across regions. The event concluded with a performance by DJ Titanium, blending genres in a nod to the cultural dialogue between Nigeria and South Africa.
Johnnie Walker AfroExchange will debut in Johannesburg on June 28, with future editions planned for other African cities, including a return to Lagos later this year. The brand says each host city will inform the themes and experiences of subsequent editions.
