Jigawa PDP begins mobilisation to join Atiku-led coalition

Published 14 hours ago2 minute read

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has launched a full-scale mobilisation drive to formally join the new national opposition coalition championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—a bold political move aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

The effort is being coordinated through a newly established State and Local Government Coalition Process Committee, chaired by Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Taura, who confirmed the development during the inauguration of coalition structures across the state’s 27 local government areas in Dutse.

“After wide consultations, we have resolved to join the national coalition movement to rescue Nigeria,” Dr. Taura declared. “Our mission is to end the suffering under the APC and restore security, peace, unity, and prosperity to the nation.”

Dr. Taura said the party had moved beyond rhetoric to action, having inaugurated similar committees at the local government level with a clear directive: mobilise down to the ward and polling unit level to prepare for full integration into the national coalition framework.

“These local committees are not symbolic—they have been tasked to go deep into communities, set up working groups, and ensure readiness when the time comes,” he stated.

According to Taura, high-level negotiations are already ongoing in Abuja between PDP leaders and leaders of the proposed coalition. Former Governor Sule Lamido, a key PDP powerbroker, is said to be actively involved in shaping the movement.

“Our leader, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has been in Abuja since Monday, engaging with coalition leaders to form a formidable national front,” Taura disclosed. “We are confident this alliance will not only attract PDP members but also disaffected APC members seeking a credible alternative.”

Taura did not mince words about the party’s ambition: to unseat President Bola Tinubu and dismantle the APC-led government at all levels.

“We are building a solid and strategic platform to take power. We believe Nigerians are ready. We believe many within the APC are ready. And we believe, God willing, this coalition will succeed,” he asserted.

While awaiting the outcome of the national coalition arrangements, Dr. Taura urged PDP members across Jigawa to remain calm, focused, and united.

“Victory requires patience and strategy. Our leaders are working. The groundwork is being laid. All PDP members must stay disciplined and wait for the signal. The time is near.”

He thanked party faithful for their continued support and resilience and reaffirmed confidence that the coming coalition will usher in political transformation and national redemption.
