Jets to kick off 2025 season against Pittsburgh Steelers - Newsday

Published 18 hours ago2 minute read

The Jets will kick off the Aaron Glenn era at home possibly against a former recent face of their franchise.

Aaron Rodgers could be in MetLife Stadium to face his old team in Week 1 when the Jets open the season against the Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. The Jets released Rodgers in March. He remains unsigned, but Pittsburgh remains the likeliest team that Rodgers joins.

The game will be Glenn’s debut as a head coach and Justin Fields’ first as a Jet — and it comes against his former team.

Glenn and first-year general manager Darren Mougey chose Fields to lead their team after moving on from Rodgers. The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $30 million guaranteed deal in free agency. Fields played for the Steelers last year, going 4-2 as a starter before he was replaced by Russell Wilson.

The Jets’ second game also is at home — against AFC East rival Buffalo and last year’s MVP Josh Allen.

Their next two games are in Florida. The Jets will play at Tampa Bay against former coach Todd Bowles’ team and then travel to Miami to face the Dolphins on Monday Night Football.

It’s one of two prime-time games that the Jets have this year. Their other is at New England on Thursday night, Nov. 13.

The Jets’ schedule is much different than last season when Rodgers and higher expectations led to them being featured in six prime-time games and another standalone game in London. The Jets had nine 1 p.m. starts in 2024.

This season, the Jets have two night contests, play in London against Denver in Week 6, and 13 games that start at 1 p.m. One of them is Week 5 at home against the Cowboys.

The Jets’ bye is Week 9, following their Oct. 26 game in Cincinnati against Joe Burrow and the Bengals.

The division rival Patriots will be the Jets’ opponent in their final home game on Dec. 28. They close out the regular season in Buffalo the following week.
