Jain Group
announced plans to set up a private university in the state under
Kerala State Private University Act
. This was announced during Invest Kerala Global Summit held in the city on Saturday. The move follows the cabinet approving a draft bill to establish and manage private universities within the state.
The new institution,
Jain Global University
, will be headquartered in Kozhikode, with campuses proposed in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Thrissur, and Kannur. The project's first phase will see an investment of Rs 350 crore.
"The university will focus on
skill development
, job creation and research-driven education, aligning with Future Kerala Mission, an initiative aimed at improving education, entrepreneurship and employability in the state," said Jain Group chancellor Chenraj Roychand. Kerala is working to provide world-class education within the state, reducing the need for students to seek higher education abroad, he said.
Jain Group of Institutions manages over 80 institutions, including two universities. Jain (deemed-to-be) University which has been operating in Kochi since 2019 holds NAAC A++ accreditation and Category One Graded Autonomy from UGC.
