Jacky Vike Recalls Rejecting Papa Shirandula's Role Offer Because of Accent: "Nilidhani Ni Ushamba"
She said:
"When Charles Bukeko, the late Papa Shirandula called me for that role, I told him I do not do those accent things. I told him I was not good with accents and that I would give him someone who would do it. And I gave him a friend of mine called Mwajuma. I told him to call her and said I did not want to come and do a bogus job. After three weeks, he called me again and said you are the one I want. Come and do what you can do. I just said now this man has insisted, let me just go for the respect of the legend."
She noted how the role has opened more doors for her and helped her change not only her life but also that of the people around her.
"Poverty is bad because where I grew up, I used to think I should speak fluent English so people can see that I made it. I used to think the accent acting was naivety," she added.
