In a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to quality education, the Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, Barrister Steve Nwankpa, on Friday, awarded scholarships to 28 indigent children from Offianka community.

During the visit, Nwankpa also took over the welfare of two orphaned children from the same community, reaffirming his mission to improve the lives of his constituents.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Nwankpa said the initiative was aimed at ensuring the community feels the positive impact of his administration. He added, “This is what we will keep doing as God gives us the grace and vision to do more.”

The scholarship awards followed an unscheduled visit to the Nursery and Primary sections of John Calvin Secondary School, Offianka, where he discovered that several pupils were unable to afford school fees and uniforms.

“I found that about 28 indigent pupils could not pay their fees or buy uniforms, so I quickly covered their costs and granted them scholarships,” he explained.

Nwankpa emphasized that investing in children’s education is a lasting and profitable investment for the future. He also highlighted the need to support the efforts of Governor Francis Nwifuru in developing future leaders.

“We need to complement Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s remarkable work in the education sector. Those of us at the grassroots must ensure his initiatives reach rural areas,” he said.

“The Governor deserves encouragement and support, and that’s exactly what we aim to do.”
