After a massive hit of 'Please Please Please', singer Sabrina Carpenter is all set to drop another new single on Thursday. The 26-year-old pop singer took to her Instagram to give a glimpse of her latest track 'Manchild' to her fans, which quickly ignited speculation over who the inspiration behind the biting lyrics was, is it her ex-Barry Keoghan?

Carpenter shared the post with a caption mentioning, “I wrote Manchild on a random Tuesday with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff, right after wrapping Short n’ Sweet."

Moreover, in the series of behind-the-scenes photos from the upcoming music video, Carpenter shared that creating the song was 'incredibly fun', adding that it felt like a heartfelt tribute to the messy and unpredictable journey of growing up.

With the release of the track, Sabrina Carpenter called 'Manchild' her 'loving eye roll' to young adulthood. She further wrote in the post that it became something that she can look back on that scores the mental montage of her confusing and fun young adult years.

“It sounds like the song embodiment of a loving eye roll, like a never-ending road trip in the summer," she added. She said she wanted to release the song now so that her fans can roll down their car windows and sing it at the top of their lungs all summer.

Before the 'Espresso' singer could sign off, the comment section filled with speculations about the inspiration behind 'Manchild'. Some suspect it is a dig at an ex.

A Reddit user shared a post saying, "Sabrina Carpenter takes a savage dig at ex Barry Keoghan as she announces new song Manchild as fans joke, 'We all thought of him didn't we."

On the other hand, the lyrics of 'Manchild' mention, “Manchild, why you always come a-runnin' to me? / F--- my life, won't you let an innocent woman be? / Never heard of self-care / Half your brain just ain't there.”

This left fans speculating that even though the pop star did not take names, they quickly drew connections to her most recent ex, Irish actor Barry Keoghan, 32.

The ex-couple was first seen dining together in Los Angeles in December 2023, but by the end of the following year, they had swiftly taken a break.
