TikTok star lives with Tourette syndrome and shared her story with fans on the small screen during the series premiere of Baylen Out Loud in January 2025. The TLC star reached instant success with viewership, resulting in the network renewing the reality show for season 2 the following month. That said, fans are wondering if Baylen Out Loud is real or if it is fake and scripted.

Baylen Out Loud follows the life of Baylen as she navigates the challenges of early adulthood while living with Tourette syndrome, a disorder that involves repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics) that can’t be easily controlled, according to Mayo Clinic.

Season 1 premiered on January 13, 2025, and highlighted the dynamic of the Dupree household. Baylen lives with her parents, and and siblings , Sammi Dupree, Sven Dupree, Vick Dupree and Bechnir Dupree.

However, Baylen wanted to take the next step with boyfriend Colin Dooley and apartment hunt in hopes of moving in together. After moving in together, Colin got down on one knee and proposed to Baylen. They announced their engagement on February 11, 2025.

As the episodes rolled out throughout season 1, fans began to speculate if Baylen’s tics were real or if she over-dramatized them for the show.

TLC shared a clip of episode 4 via Instagram on February 4, 2025, featuring a moment when Baylee experienced an attack of tics while discussing her future with Colin.

“So fake I think she may have Tourette’s but I think some of her content is rehearsed,” one person wrote in the comments section of the post.

A second person commented, “1% Tourette’s. 99% Acting.”

Baylen reacted to the accusations that her tics were fake and slammed the hate while revealing that her diagnosis and symptoms are real.

Baylen Out Loud is a new TV show that follows Baylen Dupree, a young woman diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome (TS), as she navigates daily life with the support of her family,” the U.S. Tourette Association said in a statement posted to their website following the premiere of Baylen Out Loud. “The Tourette Association of America (TAA) is grateful for Baylen’s efforts to raise awareness by bravely sharing her experience with TS, coprolalia, and other associated conditions. If you’re one of the many people visiting this page to learn more about TS because of the show, we welcome you!”

In the statement, TAA revealed that some of its community members shared their concerns for the show and how the audience will interpret “the show without the context necessary to counter the common misconceptions and stereotypes that make TS such a highly stigmatized condition.”

“We understand these concerns and are taking steps to mediate and educate throughout the duration of the season,” the statement continued. “Each week, we will update this page with science-backed information about the themes discussed in the show to help audiences understand and appreciate the realities of living with these conditions.
