A popular supplement line is being urgently recalled over safety concerns that could pose serious, even fatal, risks to children.
iHerb, an e-commerce company, has voluntarily recalled approximately 60,000 bottles of its California Gold Nutrition-branded iron-containing vitamins after it was discovered the packaging failed to meet federal child-safety standards, according to an announcement by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday, June 26.
The CPSC states that the bottles were not equipped with child-resistant caps, as outlined by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. This oversight creates a serious hazard for children, particularly those under 6, who are at high risk for acute iron poisoning if the supplements are accidentally ingested.
The recalled vitamins – California Gold Nutrition Daily Prenatal Multi, Ultamins Women's Multivitamin and Ultamins Women's 50+ Multivitamin – were available online through major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Target, and were sold between January 2019 and April 2025, retailing for $8 to $18.

PEOPLE reached out to iHerb for a statement and did not immediately receive a response.
While no injuries, hospitalizations, or fatalities have been reported to date, health officials are urging consumers who purchased any of the affected products to safely dispose of the supplements or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
According to the National Library of Medicine, iron poisoning can happen quickly and severely in young children. Early symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and in more serious cases can escalate to seizures, liver failure, or even coma.
Consumers with questions or concerns are encouraged to visit the official recall page on the CPSC website or contact iHerb’s customer support for further instructions.
