Bugaboo High Chairs Recalled Due To Safety Risk
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in partnership with Bugaboo North America, has issued a voluntary recall of the Giraffe high chair due to a serious fall hazard.
According to the CPSC, the problem stems from screws that may loosen or detach during improper assembly. If that happens, the legs connecting to the chair's frame can potentially collapse under a seated child, posing risks of injury or even death.
So far, Bugaboo has received 22 reports of the chair's legs detaching, including 13 reports of minor injuries in children.
The Bugaboo Giraffe high chair, which retails for around $380, has been a popular choice among parents. The recall affects ones purchased between May 2023 and April 2025. Here's what parents should know if you have this product in your home.
Bugaboo North America is voluntarily recalling the Giraffe high chair in conjunction with the CPSC after more than a dozen reports of minor injuries. The screws designed to secure each leg can loosen over time, especially under pressure from a child leaning or pushing. If a leg detaches, the entire chair can collapse causing the child to fall.
Some parents even shared alarming personal experiences on Reddit. In one post, a concerned parent warns others that the chair suddenly came apart while their child was properly strapped into it.
"The top half of the legs separated from the bottom, causing the entire seat to collapse forward," the Redditor writes. "Since he was still strapped in, he had no way to catch himself and fell straight forward with the seat. One screw had fallen out without me realizing, and the other was still in the chair but somehow didn’t hold the frame together."
In response, Bugaboo has been distributing free repair kits for the high chair that include replacement screws and an improved Allen key.
To check if your child's high chair is part of the over 18,000 units that are being recalled, locate the item code (bottom of the seat) to confirm. The Giraffe high chair, available in blue, black, natural wood/white, warm wood/gray, and white, have these item codes below:
Color | Item Code |
Blue | 200008005 |
Black | 200008004 |
Neutral Wood/White | 200008002 |
Warm Wood/Gray | 200008003 |

According to the CPSC, parents who own a Bugaboo Giraffe High Chair should take the following steps:
After receiving the kit, follow the detailed instructions to reinstall the legs securely. Bugaboo is also proactively contacting customers who bought the high chair within the timeframe. For parents who purchased the chair after May 1, 2025, it should already include the updated screws, meaning no further action is required to keep the chair secure.
Currently, Bugaboo is not offering refunds—only the repair kit.
