After being put in to bat first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Chennai Super Kings posted a fighting total of 190/9 in their clash against Punjab Kings. The game began with Punjab starting strongly with the ball and being on the front foot. Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh made an early impact as CSK were struggling at 48/3 by the end of the powerplay. Shaik Rasheed, Ayush Mhatre, and Ravindra Jadeja were all dismissed cheaply, with Jadeja falling to Harpreet Brar after a brief cameo.

Despite the early challenges, the home team found their way back through an important partnership between Dewald Brevis (32 off 26) and Sam Curran. The Englishman looked in brilliant touch, adding 88 off just 47 deliveries, including nine fours and four sixes. Curran and Shivam Dube added 78 for the fourth wicket, producing a counterattack during the middle overs. Curran, in the 16th over, smashed Suryansh Shedge for 26 runs.

However, just as CSK looked set for a big finish, Yuzvendra Chahal, brought in for the 19th over, started by conceding a six to MS Dhoni, but bounced back strongly. He dismissed Dhoni, and a ball later removed Deepak Hooda and Anshul Kamboj in consecutive deliveries. Off the final ball of the over, Noor Ahmad perished trying to go for a big shot, completing himself hat-trick, making it his second in IPL history and the first by any bowler in the league since 2023. The magical over-restricted CSK to 190. Jansen picked wickets, while Arshdeep, Brar, and Azmatullah Omarzai chipped in as well.

“It felt good. It was the 19th over and Mahi bhai so it could have gone either way but I was thinking about taking wickets. There were five fielders inside so I was just ensuring the batters don’t get settled. Wanted to play with the batters’ minds. [On his celebration] That came from a meme so I thought that any time I get a five-wicket haul or a hat-trick I will celebrate with that. It looked like 190 was a good total to chase and when the ball got older, it started to turn a little, but I think this is a good total to chase still,” Chahal said on air.
