IPI Nigeria appoints Idris, Garba Shehu, Egbemode, Ohwahwa, 25 others to committees

The International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria has named a host of media professionals to its newly reconstituted standing committees.

A statement signed on Monday by IPI Nigeria secretary Ahmed Shekarau said the move is aimed at bolstering press freedom and encouraging responsible journalism across the nation.

The committees, which include fundraising, programming, advocacy, and membership, are composed of accomplished individuals with significant experience in the media industry.

Among the notable appointees are the minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris; Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity to former President Muhammadu Buhari; Funke Egbemode, former president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE); Emma Agu, former managing director of Champion Newspapers, and Gbemiga Ogunleye, former provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism.

IPI Nigeria president, Musikilu Mojeed, underscored the importance of the appointments. He noted that the committees will play a pivotal role in accelerating the institute’s mission to safeguard press freedom and ensure responsible journalism practices in Nigeria.
