Interview: Sickrecy (Written)

Well. It started in early 2020 when I (Martin) got the bright idea to try and write some grindcore songs inspired by Napalm Death – Mentally murdered ep. I asked Marcus (whom i already played with in another band called World in Ruins) to play the guitars on those tracks and then i met Adde (General Surgery, Birdflesh) through a mutual friend. It was supposed to be a side project only but things evolved and in late 2022/23 Isac and Tobbe (Jigsore Terror) joined the band.

I would tell them that we play Grindcore, inspired by the late 80’s, early 90’s extreme music underground scene.

We try to promote our new split 7inch vinyl with Austrian death grinders Distaste and we are currently finishing up a video for the track Last In Line from that record. Our two tracks will be released as a single June 6 on all streaming site.

Since Adde has a lot to do with his other bands General Surgery and Birdflesh we haven’t booked that many shows but we will play “Summer of death´´later this summer together with Crawl (Chainsaw death metal) and Axis of Despair (ex Nasum, Coldworker members).

It’s always exciting to drop a new record and this split is the first of three to be released this year. Other than that we are working on our second album. Hopefully it will be released during next year.

Since we are a small band that does everything by ourselves it’s always hard work trying to promote the band and the releases. Just doing records and teaming up with different DIY labels and distros is a lot but it is all worth it in the end. Being part of this great community means the world to us and knowing that people on the other side of the globe is listening to our vinyls and wearing our merch is totally amazing.

It gets rid of a lot of anger for a start and it brings joy in the everyday madness that we are all part of.

The biggest challenge is to come up with kick ass riffs that are a bit different than the last record but still sounds like Sickrecy. I think that the best way to overcome the challenges is to not be afraid to write a bad song and just keep on making music. Out of every 15 riffs that you make it is probably only 1 that is good enough for a song and in the end that song might not end up on any records at all.

I would say that we take it as it comes. I don’t think that we pay much of attention to how many followers we have, we just try to put out news, related content, write and talk to our fans and being sincere, decent people.

Hmmm, good one! I don’t know. Talking to people and writing with people is always fulfilling and fun.

I would say, please push like and share if you think that something is good or meaningful. Buy our merch, vinyls, cd’s and digital. Go to shows and support the venues.

Fishing, hunting, cooking food, walking the dogs, attending our kids hockey and football games, go for a spin with the motorcycle, drinking beer and listen to good music.

All our music is available on all streaming platforms and on Bandcamp and Soundbubble.
