Indiana's Kanaan Carlyle to enter the transfer portal - Inside the Hall | Indiana Hoosiers Basketball News, Recruiting and Analysis
Carlyle transferred to Indiana from Stanford before last season and averaged four points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 16.2 minutes per game.
Over 48 career games at Stanford and Indiana, Carlyle has career averages of 7.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
At Stanford, Carlyle scored 28 points as a freshman against Arizona and was named national player of the week. He also had games of 31 points against Washington State and 22 points against Oregon State.
But in Bloomington, Carlyle never came close to reaching those heights. Considered one of the top guards in the transfer portal last spring, he was a disappointment in his lone season with the Hoosiers.
Carlyle began the season in the starting lineup but struggled offensively all season. He shot 24.3 percent on 3s and 33.8 percent on 2s while attempting only 14 free throws all season.
The 6-foot-3 guard scored in double figures just three times in an IU uniform.
He had 12 points in an 87-71 win against South Carolina on November 16. His top-scoring performance came against Minnesota on December 9. Carlyle scored 14 points in 22 minutes. He also had 13 points in an overtime win at Ohio State on January 17. Carlyle logged a career-high 36 minutes against the Buckeyes.
He is the sixth IU player to enter the transfer portal this spring, joining Gabe Cupps, Malik Reneau, Mackenzie Mgbako, Jakai Newton and Kanaan Carlyle.
Carlyle has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
