2025-26 Indiana basketball roster tracker: Six Hoosiers have entered the portal
DeVries will build the 2025-26 season roster over the coming months. Based on the transfer portal activity thus far, it may be an entirely new team next winter in Bloomington.
We’ll track Indiana’s 2025-26 roster changes throughout the offseason. Here’s our first version of the 2025-26 Indiana basketball roster tracker:
Four scholarship players from the 2024-25 team are out of eligibility and cannot return next season.
Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway, who both played five seasons for the Hoosiers, exhausted their eligibility and have completed their careers.
Big man Oumar Ballo was in college for six years and played five seasons between Gonzaga, Arizona and Indiana. His career is over.
And Langdon Hatton, who transferred from Bellarmine, has also completed his eligibility. Hatton played his freshman season at William & Mary, two seasons at Bellarmine and then finished his career at Indiana this past season.
Fort Wayne native Luke Goode is asking the NCAA for a fifth season of eligibility after he played in 10 games as a sophomore at Illinois during the 2022-23 season.
At this point, it is unknown how the NCAA will view Goode’s argument. By NCAA rule, Goode has exhausted his eligibility because he returned from an injury in the 2022-23 season and played in the final 10 games.
Medical redshirts are typically only granted when an injury is season-ending and a player did not compete in more than 30 percent of games that season.
It’s been a busy week for transfer portal entries after the portal officially opened on Monday morning. Six players have entered the portal: Gabe Cupps, Malik Reneau, Mackenzie Mgbako, Jakai Newton, Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle. Cupps committed to Ohio State earlier this week and the five others remain in the portal.
Given the coaching change, the roster turnover was expected. DeVries discussed his process for meeting with the current players at his introductory press conference:
“Like I say, it all comes down to fit,” DeVries explained. “If we have some guys on the current roster that still would love to be here and it seems to make sense for both of us, let’s do that. And if there’s some guys that feel like they can find a better connection somewhere else, there’s no hard feelings there. They didn’t come here because I was the head coach, so I understand that.”
Freshman Bryson Tucker and senior Dallas James are the only two scholarship players who have not made an announcement on their future.
There were reports last week that Tucker would enter the portal, but he denied that. As of Friday morning, he is the only significant roster piece from last season still in limbo.
James, who did not play at all last season, could have another season of eligibility if he wishes to use it because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, given his ties to Mike Woodson, it would be a major surprise if he was on the roster next season.
Four-star Montverde Academy forward Trent Sisley is sticking with his commitment to the Hoosiers and will be on the 2025-26 roster.
While not formally announced, Tucker DeVries will be on the 2025-26 roster. A two-time MVC player of the year at Drake, DeVries averaged 14.9 points last season at West Virginia. He will be eligible for a medical redshirt next season because he played in just eight games for the Mountaineers.
