Generative AI investment has become a priority for 64% of Indian companies in 2025, a new study by AWS revealed on Thursday. The study highlighted challenges in AI adoption in India, stating that 75% of Indian companies currently do not have a change management strategy to help employees adapt to AI-centric work environments.ET also reported in May that demand for AI and data talent grew nearly 45%. However, in emerging fields like GenAI, there’s just one qualified professional for every ten open roles.
The AWS survey, which sampled 415 senior IT executives across sectors such as financial services, ICT, manufacturing, and retail, found that 83% of Indian companies have appointed Chief AI Officers to drive Gen AI initiatives, with another 15% planning to do so by 2026.
On June 17, Andy Jassy, chief executive of Amazon, indicated that AI would gradually reduce the size of the company’s corporate workforce and that genAI is already being used extensively in internal operations.
In a report on Thursday, business news channel CNBC said that 43% of organizations have fully integrated GenAI into their workflows.
ET reported in January that AI adoption could transform 38 million jobs, driving a 2.61% productivity boost to the Indian economy through gains in the organised sector. However, lack of skilled talent remains a critical barrier.
AWS launched its India Tech Alliance in February 2024 to boost career readiness and build capabilities in modern technologies like AI. It has already enabled more than 5,000 learners in India on generative AI fundamentals and prompt engineering.
