India Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Ghana for historic diplomatic visit

Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has arrived in Ghana for a high-level diplomatic engagement, marking the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 30 years.

The Indian leader’s arrival was announced on the X page of Citi FM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, with the caption:

“Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Ghana for high-level diplomatic visit. His arrival marks a significant moment in strengthening Ghana–India relations.”

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that the visit would include bilateral talks, the signing of multiple cooperation agreements, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering a wide range of sectors.

“The talks, as has been agreed, will focus on agriculture, health, defence cooperation, and the establishment of a joint commission. We will also hold discussions on Ghana becoming the vaccine hub of Africa,” Ablakwa disclosed.

He added that a state banquet would be held in honour of Prime Minister Modi, where he would be conferred with Ghana’s highest national honour.

The visit is expected to rekindle and strengthen long-standing Ghana–India relations across diplomatic, economic, and cultural spheres.
